  1. I started using water-mixable oils over 40 yrs ago (Grumbacher) and indeed-what a huge improvement in the quality and usability there is nowadays. Those early paints were so gloopy and unpleasant to use, but at that time they were the only option to travel with as airlines did not accept traditional oils, and I moved around the globe a lot. I bet Grumbacher paints have also improved to the same extent, but as I can’t find them here in the UK I have no first-hand knowledge.
