Golden Open Acrylics Mixing Colours Set

This Golden Open Acrylics Mixing Colours Set includes 12 x 22ml tubes of slow-drying acrylic paint plus a bottle of Glden OPEN Thinner/Diluant. The set includes a broad spectrum of colours perfect for experimenting with colour mixing. The colours included in this set are:

• 1 x 30ml bottle of Golden OPEN Thinner

This palette of colours includes a warm and cool variant of each primary, ideal for artists looking to mix colours using the split primary method. Combine them with the other key colours in the set and you’ll be able to mix an extensive range of colours. The increased working time of these colours allows artists to explore traditional painting techniques such as softening, shading, glazing and blending.

Golden OPEN Acrylics are designed to stay wet longer than traditional acrylics, giving you extended blending time. For thin paint films, the paint typically stays wet for 30 to 60 minutes, and remains workable for up to 1 to 3 hours. It will usually be touch dry within 24 hours and fully cured after 14 days. Thicker applications dry much more slowly, so we recommend applying paint thinly (less than 1 mm) for best results. To prevent skinning during long sessions, mist your palette with every 1–4 hours. Many artists find that when stored in a sealed or covered palette, their colours remain workable for days - even weeks - helping to reduce paint waste.

Golden Open acrylics are specially formulated to have a slower drying rate than traditional acrylics. Not only does this mean that you have more time to mix and blend your colours, it also means that your colours will stay fresher for longer on your palette! Some artists find that in a sealed or covered palette their colours remain workable for weeks, resulting in much less dried and wasted paint. As they have a longer open time they are usable with techniques previously limited to oils, and can even be used in some printmaking methods. Their slow drying properties also make them a fantastic option for plein air painters. They have a slightly softer consistency than Golden's Heavy Body Acrylic colours.
