  • I had to try it!

and I am so glad that I did try it.I found that some of the pigments that I thought I may like I didn't, some that looked very different were in fact very similar to other manufacturers, but also many real surprises. The Quinacridone range is eyepopping, and some of the transparent earths are stunning. I use Verona Gold Ochre now instead of yellow ochre, ande Monte Amiata Nat Sienna instead of raw sienna. They are lovely, as is Quinacridone Sienna which is quite stunning. The Duochrome and Iridescent paints are all fantastic for shimmery glazing effects and affordable at series 1, so why not have a go at that card if you dont fancy this one. I would recommend using a synthetic brush or mixed brush as the dots in some colours need a bit of 'poke' to get them going. I recommend it.

  • Great fun and a good way to try colours

Lots of very unusual as well as more mainstream pigments - an excellent way to try out Daniel Smith paints as they only come in big tubes which can be quite an expensive way to try a new colour and end up not liking it. Some of the blobs are bigger than others as it is a hand made product and I suppose they can be more generous with the cheaper pigments but there is enough to paint a square in varying dilutions and still have enough to use once or twice in a small painting. I have discovered quite a few interesting mixes which I wouldn't have tried and it is fabulous for flower painting. I am ordering some more of my favourite colours.

  • A brilliant idea!

A great way to try the whole range of Daniel Smith colours. There are so many available I didn't know where to start- I wanted them all! So being able to try them using this colour card is brilliant. Some of the shades I was attracted to I actually didn't like so much when I tried them, and likewise I found some brilliant new colours I would never have chosen otherwise. The amount of paint on the dots is sufficient enough to get a good idea of the shade and working properties of each colour. In fact I have used them as accents on smaller paintings to give myself a bit of variety!
