Derwent Push Button Waterbrushes

Brand: Derwent

Derwent Push Button Waterbrushes are a range of refillable water brush pens perfect for taking outdoors on plein air painting trips. These waterbrushes are easily filled - just unscrew the two halves of the barrel and pour in water.

The push button function in the middle of the brush allows you to control the water release. While the larger reservoir means that these waterbrushes contain more water and will need fewer refills. Each waterbrush has a durable nylon fibre tip which holds its shape and point for continuous use and comes with a protective cap. These waterbrushes are comfortable to hold and leak proof.

They are ideal for use with watersoluble paints and pencils. Available in four sizes, and in a set containing all four:

  • Fine tip waterbrush perfect for detailed watercolour painting.
  • Medium tip waterbrush perfect for building textures and layers.
  • Large tip waterbrush creates smooth and blended strokes.
  • Large chisel tip waterbrush perfect for versatile strokes and washes.

  • Good

For some reason, these looked quite small in the picture. They're not. They're really big and long. Much better than my Pentel one and it doesn't dribble out too much water like the one that came with my Cotman set. I have three waterbrushes and this one is the best.

  • The real advantage of these pens is that the water control works

I have used various makes of waterbrush and these are the best so far. The main problem with (other and cheaper brushes) is that the are liable to flood particularly in hot weather when the heat from ones hand causes the air in the barrel to expand and flow out of control. This is particularly unsatisfactory if one is using liquid water colour.

  • Works well

I had never used one of these and it took me awhile to figure out how to fill it! Once I figured that out, it worked well. Cleans easily and should last a long time.
