The ArtGraf Soft Carbon Pencil has a smooth texture and delivers results similar to charcoal. Unlike charcoal, this pencil is soft and easy to apply. These pencils create rich, dark blacks which can be blended, erased and also manipulated with water to create transparent washes.

Good value
First time using this type of pencil. Achieved very intense darks with little effort, especially on a hot-pressed water-colour paper or cartridge paper. Being water-soluble makes it extra-versatile.

Other reviews on these were helpful - they said that the pencil was very black, which it was, and makes a good wash when wetted. Not easy to sharpen, you need a scalpel. These are new to me and I was pleased to find them. Easier to use than the flat shapes.

been looking for a long time for a dense black graphite. This is it. Jet black. The pencil is easier to use than the cake. Very water soluble and lovely effects if drawn into standing water on paper. Or can use dry as normal pencil. Not easy to erase though.
