We now stock Golden Open Acrylics in larger quantities in Titanium White. Useful for artists who use large quantities of white, this colour is now available in 118ml, 150ml and 237ml. Please note - both the 118ml and 237ml Titanium Whites are packed in small tubs, whereas the 150ml Titanium White is tubed.
Golden Open acrylic colours are an artist quality paint with slow drying properties. Their special formula allows for an extended working time, which means you can mix and blend colours without stress. Your colours will also stay workable on your palette for longer and, if they are stored in a sealed or covered container, they can last for weeks - resulting in less paint waste. As they are slow drying they can also be used for painting techniques usually restricted to oils - they can even be used for some printmaking techniques! They have a slightly softer consistency than Golden's Heavy Body Acrylic colours.
Golden believe that artists have the right to know what chemicals they are working with, and so have developed their own Health & Safety labelling system. You should follow basic precautions when using any Golden Products. Each label gives pigment identification information as well as general guidelines for safe use, and on Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) which list hazards of product components without incorporating the use assumptions of toxicological risk assessment. Golden's label advice for using chemical products safely, while conservative, emphasizes the need to err on the side of caution when using art materials. It's a lot of information to fit onto a label, Golden believe it's the best service they can offer. More information about Golden Health & Safety Labelling
Golden Open paints have unique properties that no other paint on the market can match. I use them for my own portraiture and I recommend them to all my students. Some might at first find them "runny" but this makes them extremely easy to use and they can be mixed with a stiffer medium or paint if you need to prefer a palette knife. The fact the paint stays wet for SO long is a gift to any artist and mixing them with the Thinners and Gloss Medium gives a finish identical to oils. They do not change tone/colour on drying, as most other acrylics do. I would recommend them to anyone. It's cheaper to buy a large tub, although I prefer to use a tube for travelling. Wonderful paints! I'd never use any other acrylic. Penny Crichton-seager (Kelso, United Kingdom) on 8 Feb 2020
it’s runny and doesn’t work for me. I shan’t buy it again.Gloria Marie Gwynne-Evans (Vva De La Concepción, Spain) on 10 Jul 2018
Ken Bromley's replies:
The Golden Open does have a slightly softer consistency than its Heavy Body equivalent which we do try to make clear on our website. It can be intermixed with heavy Body colour to build up a slightly thicker consistency, however this will affect its drying time.
This open paint is very good for projects where you need the paint to be fluid and not dry too quickly. Brenda Gritt (Bournemouth, United Kingdom) on 30 May 2020
