  • A curate's egg - Artograph Inspire800 Art Projector

This is an expensive piece of equipment, which in the end I decided to keep because it was affordable at the time for me. It does what it says it will do, but unless you are working very large it has to be positioned within a few feet of the canvas or paper. Any vibration on the floor obviously transmits across the projected image, but as long as the projector doesn't permanently move its position this does not matter too much. I had to buy an adaptor to wire it up the AppleMac; then selected a photograph from my library. Easy. Alternatively you can put your camera memory card into the back of the projector.
I use it to produce a quick outline of the major elements of the composition and then put it away and work directly from the photograph.
All sounds great on paper, but not worth the money IMHO. John Dennis (Bembridge, United Kingdom) on 1 Feb 2017

  • A great piece of kit. Expensive, but does the job. - Artograph Inspire800 Art Projector

Purchased for projecting an image onto canvas or paper for painting / drawing. Rather complicated to set up, and needs a decent tripod for convenience. Allows one to use various image input, although the SD card is probably the most straight forward, providing one has a digital camera, of course. To connect to an Apple Mac or iPhone is quite involved, and requires the right adaptor / converter which isn't supplied. A USB memory stick is fairly easy to use as well, but requires copying an image to it from a computer, this all takes time and effort. However, once set up with ones image in the device, sketching the projected image is quite straight forward and reasonably precise. Whether the high cost of the projector can be fully justified remains to be seen, but it does save a lot of time and trouble transferring an outline to canvas in the more conventional ways, if one wishes to utilise photographs, or indeed ones own sketches, once digitised of course, with the options the device provides.
