Liquid Metal

Charles Roberson’s Liquid Metal acrylic paints have a rich deep metallic finish and are ideal for a wide range of applications and surfaces.  

Our range consists of 28 of the most popular metallic shades which are all fully intermixable with each other.  There are 11 shades of gold and 5 shades of silver, plus other metals such as brass, bronze and pewter. Available in 30ml glass jars which cover approximately 7 square metres.

How do I use Liquid Metal?

Use this creamy, quick drying paint on canvas, paper, wood and plaster.  Paint non absorbent surfaces, such as metal, after priming with a water-based primer-sealer. 

Apply the paint with a brush, roller/brayer, palette knife or air brush.  Thin with water so that the paint becomes more transparent whilst retaining it’s shimmery qualities.  Mix with, or paint on top of other acrylic mediums – the possibilities are endless! Moreover, as it’s a water-based paint clean up is simple – soap and water or an artist brush cleaner.

Importantly, these paints will not tarnish. The metal powders contained in the paint are coated with a binder so there is no contact with oxygen. There is no need for varnish unless it’s an exterior piece of work.

There are some notable differences with a couple of the colours;

Solid Silver Liquid Metal – is made in a different way to the rest of the silver shades.  Solid Silver uses aluminum particles which make it very opaque and gives great coverage.

Twinkle Liquid Metal – produces colour changing effects with a hint of glitter.  Using different coloured backgrounds will change the effect too. Dark backgrounds accentuate the glitter properties, whilst light backgrounds enhance the colour changing effects.  As the paints are intermixable adding this Twinkle colour to others in the range can create some really interesting interference effects.

Liquid Leaf

Liquid Leaf is a remarkable gilding paint that contains its own red primer and film of lustrous gold, premixed into a single liquid.  It looks absolutely stunning painted onto carved and ornamental furniture, frames, mouldings, decorative ceilings, lamps and figurines.

There are 8 colours in the range; Brass, White Fire, Copper, Florentine Gold, Classic Gold, Renaissance Gold, Pewter & Silver which match the Treasure Gold range.  Layer colours on top of each other to create custom colour effects.

Available in 30ml glass bottles which cover approximately 2 square metres.

How do I use Liquid Leaf?

Use Liquid Leaf on multiple surfaces including wood, metal, glass, ceramics, papier mache and cardboard. The consistency of Liquid Leaf means that it flows easily onto the surface, with no brush marks, forming a beautiful burnished finish. 

Use Liquid Leaf in an airbrush too by thinning with Brush Bath.

In summary, this easy to control one-step paint gives a brilliant sheen without the brassiness. It gives a permanent finish more closely resembling traditional gold leafing.

Treasure Gold

Treasure Gold is a metallic wax which is unexcelled in restoring gold leaf and the finishing touches for antiquing.  This creamy wax is also suitable for a range of mixed media and craft techniques. 

There are 8 colours available in the range, which match the Liquid Leaf range. Blend different colours together to create your own custom, metallic shade.  The colours available are Brass, White Fire, Copper, Florentine Gold, Classic Gold, Renaissance Gold, Pewter & Silver.  

Treasure Gold is highly concentrated, a little goes a long way!  Available in 25g glass jars which cover approximately 2 square metres.

How do I use Treasure Gold?

Apply Treasure Gold with your fingers, a cloth or a brush and buff lightly after applying.  The metal lustre will not fade or tarnish.

Treasure Gold is easy to use on; paper, cardboard, wood, glass, metal, wax, leather, ceramics, plastic, plaster, resin or virtually any other surface.  It adheres well to contoured surfaces, without cracking or peeling and touch dries immediately to a permanent finish.

Finally, Treasure Gold also works brilliantly for marbling techniques.
