Stephen Coates, a Sheffield-born artist and tutor, rediscovered his passion for art at the age of 50 after a career in the music industry and running his own sandwich business. Self-taught in watercolours, Stephen’s journey began with selling his paintings in his shop and soon expanded into teaching. His popular classes in Sheffield led to a nationwide reputation as a watercolour demonstrator, workshop leader, and contributor to Leisure Painter magazine.
Stephen has published two books with a third on the way and collaborated with Proarte to design his own range of brushes, including the innovative “Foliater.” He also works closely with Winsor & Newton, painting live at art shows. Despite a busy career, Stephen continues to share his enthusiasm for art through teaching, writing, and developing materials for fellow artists.
