Art Group of the Month – Heaton Art Group

This month our tour of North West Art Groups stops off near our headquarters in Bolton. Heaton Art Group was established in 2019 with a small grant from Bolton at Home Arts Officers and is now part of Woodbridge College. Lets take a look at what they get up to.

When & where do we meet?

We meet twice a month on Friday afternoons from 1.15 PM until 3.15 pm during term time at;

Heaton Centre, New Hall Lane, Bolton, BL1 5LF

Access is at floor level and the building is light warm and modern and comfortable to work in. Membership is currently £25 a year and there is no session fee.

To respect college staff and minimise any disruptions, we kindly ask members to arrive promptly at 1:15 pm. Since the room may also be used as a college classroom, please arrive and depart on time, and help us keep the workspace clean and tidy for everyone’s use. Complimentary tea and coffee are available, so feel free to enjoy! While each member is responsible for their own well-being, please let us know of any health concerns, and we will gladly do our best to assist.

Who is the group suitable for?

Experience ranges from complete beginners to fully qualified arts practitioners. This is a collaborative group where members bring their own subject matter and work independently in a self-guided way. The vibrant interaction among members creates an inspiring environment where learning naturally happens through shared discussions and examples. Salford Art Group also kindly support us with shared ideas for activities.

How do the classes run?

We use pen, pencil, pastels, watercolour, and other water-based media like acrylics and water mixable oil. Members of the group provide their own materials and equipment which they bring with them. Members choose their own subject matter and bring along the materials they wish to use for the piece. From time to time, we may join together in a still life exercise or meet out of doors for sketching en plein air.
