Really amazed with the quality
by Elisabeta Nitura (Botosani, Romania) on 26 Jan 2012"I bought a selection of these paints as my first artists' grade watercolours and I'm really amazed with the quality. They are so intense that it's hard for me to control the piqment load considering that I've only used the Cotman half pans before. I thought those were very nice too but it's so much easier to work with these tubes for a beginner like me.
The paint arrived in mint condition, no air bubbles, no separation. I've used it on a cheap folding palette that Ken Bromley also supplies and after leaving the paint for over a week in there it still lifted so nicely.
For the inexperienced ones like me that are weighing in if they should switch to Artists' I would say go for it. Wait a bit longer if you can't afford them at once or buy less colours, they're certainly worth it."
Very good consistent colours
by anne stolbeerger (county cork ireland) on 18 Feb 2008"Very good consistent colours. Other makes can be variable, think the larger tubes could include a few more, Indigo, and Naples Yellow examples as useful, better pigment than Prussian Blue best wishes to the company .....you are very good you know, and my order came very quickly."
Did you find this review helpful? yes | noBrilliance and purity of the colours is outstanding
by Jenny Chapman (West Highlands) on 17 Jun 2009"Many artists consider Winsor & Newton's Artists' water colours to be the best available, and they certainly are excellent.
The brilliance and purity of the colours is outstanding - I use them all the time in my own work. The large number of single pigment colours is particularly valuable. Don't be tempted to think that you can mix any colour from a few basics. As Winsor & Newton themselves tell you, you can't. Nor can you rely only on the cheaper colours - many of the more expensive ones are indispensable. I find the range of cobalt colours is vital, for example. If you like rich saturated colours or do plenty of studio painting, the 14ml tubes are the best and most economical option, but for occasional painting or sketching out and about, pans or half-pans last longer and are lighter."
